Messages translated automatically
Every message you receive in another language appears directly in yours, labelled "Translated". Tap "Show original" to see the original text. Polls and the text of status updates are translated too.
Features
Piou brings together everything you expect from a modern messaging app. Piou Premium adds translation, done on your device, without a single tap.
Translation, with Piou Premium
Translated voice messages
A voice message is transcribed, then translated into your language. The original recording can always be played.
Translated subtitles during calls
During a voice or video call, turn on subtitles: each phone transcribes its owner's voice and the other person's device translates the text live. No Piou server processes your voice.
Face-to-face mode
Put the phone between the two of you: Piou detects who is speaking, shows the translation and reads it aloud. Once the languages are downloaded, this mode works without a connection.
Messaging, free for everyone
Chats and groups
Chat one-to-one or in groups, with reactions, quoted replies, read receipts and pinned messages.
Voice messages, photos, videos and documents
Send voice messages, photos, videos and documents to your contacts and groups.
Voice and video calls
Call one-to-one or in groups of up to 8 people. Devices connect directly to each other whenever the network allows it.
Disappearing messages
For each chat, choose to have messages disappear after 24 hours, 7 days or 90 days.
Location sharing
Share your location once, or live for as long as you choose.
Polls
Ask a group a question and follow the votes in real time.
Stickers
The original Piou sticker pack, plus your own stickers made from a photo.
Status updates
Share a photo, a video or a text that your contacts can see for 24 hours. The media are then deleted automatically.
Contacts and invitations
Find the contacts who already use Piou and invite the others with a link or a QR code. The phone numbers in your address book are hashed on your phone before anything is sent.
Account and privacy
Simple sign-in
Sign in with Apple, Google or an email address. Your phone number is verified once: it lets your contacts find you, it is not used to sign in.
On-device translation
Translations are computed by your device. The text of your messages is never sent to a translation service.
One subscription, all your screens
iPhone, Android and the web: a Piou Premium subscription taken on one of them unlocks translation on all of them.
Account deletion
Delete your account and your data from the app, at any time.
